Before you go with that economy quote be sure to check out the contractor. Ask for certain documents and references.

  • Obtain a current Ohio Workers Compensation Certificate. You do not need for a worker to be coming after you or your homeowner policy because of unsafe work practices or accidents.
  • If in the city limits make sure that have a contractor’s license. The words “Bonded and Insured” on the side of a vehicle does not necessarily mean that they are.
  • If a building permit is required, make sure it is in the quote
  • Obtain and check their references. Ask questions.
  • Obtain detail scope of work and drawings if necessary.
  • Obtain the specifications of the materials to be used.
  • Obtain credit references
  • Obtain a Certificate of Insurance that specifically covers your project.
  • Obtain a specific completion date or performance period.
  • Get a proper contract for the work. Don’t sign their ‘proposal form’ with it’s fine print.
